The Influencers: Fahrenheit 451
1966 — Francois Truffaut’s film of Ray Bradbury’s novel, starring Oskar Werner and Julie Christie. If you’d like to begin a discussion on whether the late 60s was my generation’s Golden Age, or a Total Waste, open it up with this.
Tactical Food Command
Totally down with Jim Leahy’s Sullivan Street Bakery “no knead” bread. My first shot at baguettes. In his words, the dough goes “on autopilot.”
Drug of Choice = Wood Shop
Small tool cabinet. Poplar with cherry finish.

Shrimp and Little Neck Clam Fra Diavolo over homemade linguine. NY Times’ recipe for Franny’s pizza dough is in the background.

The Cars, Bayerische Motoren Werke 1987-present
Actually there were two 325s between 1987 and 1995- a black 325is stick and a red 325 automatic. The “cashmere” 325is was a 1993 model purchased in 1995, and the the 530i (my first 4-door) is a black 2002 model bought in 2005. 76,000 miles at this post.
The Cars, old reliable 1979-1987
What was I thinking? I told the salesperson I wanted to trade in an Alfa. She said, “What’s an Alfa?” The humiliation. But it started everyday and I could replace the water pump myself for $25.
The Cars, roadsters 1967-1979
Don’t judge, lest ye be judged! (I was just a kid.) For the record, all three were painted dark blue. Nitpickers: The Fiat was stock electric blue, then repainted dark blue after I crashed it somewhere near Tonopah.

A busy year. First Communion in April at St. Henry’s Church and then a meet-up with Santy at Macy’s

1969 and 1970 Christmas cards and envelopes from Fallon Naval Air Station, NV and Fortuna Air Force Station, ND. The Fallon card was sent just days after I took the photo at Altamont. I mounted the print on a BUIC III punch card as a symbolic protest (mis-use of government property?). The Fortuna card was mailed from LA, where I met Noelle O. (More on all that stuff, later.)
